My thompson speed touch broadband modem (supplied by AOL) is giving us nothing but grief, it was ok for about 18 months but for the last 6 months it keeps breaking down, we are sick of calling AOL and getting temporary fixes, what i would like to know is can i purchase my own modem and use that? if so what would be a recommended choice i need one with good security. it would be used just by 3 different lappys .
cheers

Thank you C.F. Looks like the one for me.
cheers again.
Might I just ask, what do you mean by temporary fixes? Have you not been sent a new modem?

If your modem, supplied by AOL keeps breaking down, then as long as you're paying a subscription fee for your service, you should be entitled to a free replacement (within a fair usage policy). Before spending 50 on something you shouldn't have to pay for, call them again - explain the recurring issues clearly and tell them you want to be sent a replacement, else you'll be cancelling your contract because despite a lot of effort on your part, they have failed to rectify issues with their equipment.
