Ok, so I know that this question has come up time and time again but there has been mixed answers so can anyone help to clarify please? Just over a year ago I was given a fixed penalty notice for shoplifting...I was cautioned on the spot which I believe experies as soon as itsgiven. Anyhow, my family are looking to going to USA / Canada this summer and now im beginning to worry. I know that the FPN does not count as a conviction or a record but am unsure that seen as it was theft it will count as moral turpitude? On some of the forms i have read it asks if the applicant has been conviceted or arrested where as others ask if the applicant has ever committed a crime involving moral turpitude. I was so worried that I emailed the embassy but have not had a reply.

Can anyone shed some light as to what to do for the best? I don't want to go there and then find i have to come all teh way home!

Thanks

now that you have emailed the US embassy they have a record of your name etc and if you want to get a visa you will have to apply via the US embassy for an interview and all this takes time. silly move to have contacted them.and dont expect a reply.

I did not mention any details...and i contacted them as I couldn't get an answer from anyone!

are you saying that details can be found just by emailing? I did not state where im from etc just what i had done
As has been said on here many times a fixed penalty notice is not an arrest, conviction or a criminal record. So when you are asked the question have you ever been arrested or convicted of a offence of moral turpitude ? You can truth fully answer NO.
If the question was '' have you ever committed a crime involving moral turpitude?''
It would mean that anyone who even took a paper clip or pencil home from work has to answer yes, it they were being really truthfull.
Just answer no to the questions.
