BT YAHOO! Browser
5 Answers
Hello, I had a lot of help on here last time so I'm hoping someone will help me again. I have had an e-mail from BT saying that their BT Yahoo browser is finishing and I will need to get a new one. It gives a a link to follow and it reminds me what my user name is and that I have to uninstall BT Yahoo browser and can instal Internet Explorer etc from this link but I will need my user name and password. The problem is that I can't get in to my account using the user name they say is mine. The only thing I can think of is this "Are BT and BT Yahoo 2 different things and I possibly have different user names and passwords". My 2nd question is this. Can I get a browser from somewhere else than having to go into the BT link? What do you recommend as a browser, and how do I go about getting it? Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

The BT Yahoo browser is simply a customised version of Internet Explorer. There's no reason why it should cease to function because of it (allegedly) being no longer supported by BT.
However the vast majority of the 'regulars' around here in AB's Technology section wouldn't touch Internet Explorer (either in its native form or as customised by BT) with the proverbial bargepole. By far the most popular browser here is Firefox:
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
(It's free. It's easy to download. It's easy to install. It loads pages far faster than IE does. It's generally regarded as more secure than IE. It's also far more flexible because you can customise it to your own preferences with the use of optional add-ons).

Unless you need to send and receive emails while away from your own PC or laptop, I'd always recommend using a dedicated email client (such as Outlook Express or Windows Mail) instead of ANY browser.
Instructions for setting up Outlook Express to work with you account are here:
http://www.btyahoo.com/faqs/manual_email_setup
Instructions for Windows Mail are here:

If you've got Windows 7 (which seems to come without a proper dedicated email client) I'd recommend downloading and installing Thunderbird
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/thunderbird/
and then following these set-up instructions:

However if you want to send and receive your email through a web page (as you seem to be doing at present) you can do that with ANY browser. (You certainly don't need to use BT's offering).
