FTP Transfer erroe message - anyone know what this means?

Im currently designing my website and was getting along just fine, until this morning I tried to upload a .jpg file to my remote server and got this message:

"An FTP error occoured - cannot put sitelogo.jpg.
552 Transfer aborted. Disk quota exceeded"

Can anyone help? I have tried deleting files which arent needed from both the local files and remote server to free up space to no avail, and checked my disk space on my host, which has not been exceeded. Im using Dreamweaver's FTP client, but have also tried it with and FTP client called Transit and got the same error message. Please help, Im totally stuck!!!

A 552 error is "storage allocation exceeded" on the web server end (not your local drive). If you're sure you've not exceeded your amount (either on the drive as a whole, or if they have any restrictions on the size of individual directories etc) then i'd contact your web host and explain the problem.

How big is the jpg file? Ensure it - and all your other images - is no larger than the size you wantto display on your site.

If you have run out of space on your host you can try hosting your image on another site, such as www.imageshack.com or www.photobucket.com

Thanks for the answers guys, the file size of the image is only 8kb, although there are other larger sized files in the directory, which ill either throw out or edit down to a smaller size.
As for running out of space on the host Ive got 500mb to use and only taken up 335.3. A mystery... Ill play around with a few things and try contacting my web host too - many thanks again for helping me out! xxx
