Desktop Icons not working....

The past 2 days when I click on any Icons on my desktop, nothing happens and I have to go to start, programmes etc.
Once any programme is up, I can use Bookmarks with no probs.
I am on Firefox but sometimes use IE.

If you click on an icon on your desktop does it highlight? Can you right click on the icons and does anyone else have access to your computer?

A popular practical joke is to take a screen print of your desktop, turn it into a .bmp file and make it your wallpaper. The joker then moves your genuine icons off screen or hides them behind each other.

This used to be a popular jape at a place I worked for.

I have the same problem in W7. Its something to do with the registry, if you google you can see lots of solutions but I have know idea if any work.

The icons don't highlight when I click and nothing happens when I right click.
I am the only user of my PC and this started happening after switching back to F/Fox fro IE the other day.
