Should I renew AVG.?

I ask the question with the thought in mind that there could be something better for the price involved.

November of last year, I purchased (from Amazon) AVG Anti Virus (3 user) for the sum of £18.13.(incl.p&p.) However, to renew 'on-line' with AVG for a further 12 month. it is now going to cost a minimum of £30.00 to cover my laptop and desktop comps.

It is my understanding that some Anti Virus programmes from other providers are not without problems. Consequently, as AVG has appeared to work effectively for me, perhaps I should accept that £30.00 is nowadays a reasonable amount to pay.

Helpful advice from ABers will be very much appreciated.

Ron.

In August, I renewed my AVG firewall plus anti virus (3 user. 2 year) for £21.35. I got this from Amazon. Like you, I found that AVG online renewal quote was triple this price. This renewal was identical in every way to its predecessor. So, look again in Amazon.
I think they have a free version

The free version is more than sufficient.
Microsoft Security Essentials is free and offers more than just anti virus.

I would have though that for £30 you could get more than just anti virus cover.

PC security is MUCH more than just anti virus

You can get Norton Internet Security for 3 computers for less than £30 (£23 actually) from Amazon which is more than anti virus.

Thanks all.....I have now installed Microsoft Security Essentials into my Desktop Comp. and propose doing likewise with my Laptop.

I wouldn't I have just finished repairing a computer that had the latest AVG Antivirus installed but it failed to pick it up. I am a member of a support forum and other members are reporting similiar issues. I use and recommend Avast Free Antivirus and have used it for many years with no problems.

Sorry galeck... if I appeared to disregard your comments. I have now noted what you said, but, as I am no longer getting e/mail notifications from AB, it is only now that I picked-up your posting.

For your info. I have now installed MS Essentials and will give it a whirll; but will bear in mind Avast because my sister-in-law is still operating on AVG and her set-up is comming up for renewal. Furthermore, I could have something, as recommended by you, as a fall-back if I feel that MSE is not to my liking.

Best wishes.....Ron.
I pay £9.99 a year for kaspersky, nothing gets through it!!
wonder if Jake is around? Isnt he into the antivirus business?
Question Author
Hi RATTER.... I have seen it published in the columns of AB that kaspersky is excellent, (could even be the best) but that was before MSE arrived. However, it still costs money and, as an O.A.P., I try to save on expenditure and whilst I appreciate that 'one gets nothing for nothing', I still keep trying to get bargings. :-)

lol....Ron.
I have to say that we are very happy with Norton, does everything it says on the tin.

Hi again doc.....Please excuse my twisted sense of humour which is intended as,a compliment to you.... Your prescription is worthwhile being dispensed by anyone who needs anti virus protection and is not at present on medication. :-)

All the best.....Ron.
