The govament has stated that friday the 29th april the day of the royal wedding is to be a bank holiday,
But the company i work for has stated that it is a normal working day and that all branches will be open as normal and that if you want that day off you must take it out of your holiday entitlment. Can they do this? i always thaught that you were entitled to be off on a bank holiday

No, you have no right to have bank holidays or public holidays off work.

If you did no shops, petrol stations or any other services would be open and if your house caught fire the fire brigade would all be off work, and heaven help you if you hurt yourself or were in hospital for a bank holiday as all the medical staff would have the day off!
