What Happens To Facebook After You Die?

Dear All,

This question was sprung into my mind from this: http://www.theanswerb...s/Question994133.html

What happens to a Facebook account when you become an ex-facebooker? Can you transfer your farmville livestock out to your family & friends? Could you make notice in your will that Auntie Dorine should not be in receipt of any farmville land because of what she once said about our Shirley at Dianne & Tom's wedding?

And, more seriously, what about for those people who want to keep the account open as a monument to that person? It is certainly better than roadside flowers - but still creepy.

Any spurious information or cold-hard speculation is welcome.

Spare Ed

Whiffey's FB account is still open...

My cousin (in law's) sister, who died suddenly, still has hers open. The family still right on her wall. It can be very touching sometimes.
I meant write...obviously.
Eventually another site will probably come along and it'll supercede FB (just as that did with MySpace), so FB will be the one to die first.
Morning Ed.

Probably such accounts would remain dormant.

Personally, I think it is a bit weird - but then I think grief should be a private thing. I think public displays of grief are mawkish generally speaking.

All the best,

Spare
The good old 'stiff upper lip' eh...
each to their own ed but we all deal with grief in different ways.
We are all individual unique human beings and should not be judged on how we deal with death, whatever gets you through ect.
i have a memorial site for my sister on fb but its private. i'd just want my account shut down when i pop my clogs
better to deal with death if thats your thing on the likes of facebook than to say from the bottom of a whisky bottle.
What a cheery question to find at the top of the Latest Posts lists when I looked in this morning feeling like death warmed up!!

Nice work Spare Ed!! ;o)

It's only the public part I have a problem with - all the actions are fine: writing messages to them and about them, looking at photos. It turns out Facebook is a pretty handy way to do this wherever you are.

Umm, it is a bit "stiff upper lip" etc I suppose.
What about my rockyou dog, Benji, and my 4 houseowners on yoville, oh it doesn't bear thinking about........................................
Just sounds normal to me. OR maybe we all ought to did up one of the 'poor Diana' threads here ?

As for Facebook, I try to avoid the sites where the whole intent is to show the world as much private information as possible. I don't see the appeal. Once it's there you have very limited control.
