This Is Very Distressing
My husband died on 6th February. When I checked his e mails this evening I found that he had loads of Mailor Daemon messages. Supposedly "he" had sent a one line web address to most of the addresses in his address book.
I've spent the last hour copying and pasteing addresses into e mails of apology to all these people.
How can this be happening and how do I stop it happening?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Chrissa, if you are worried about people receiving them and thinking your husband sent them then it might be an idea to just send a simple email out to all of his contacts explaining the situation. Then change the password and delete all the spam. I know it's distressing for you, unfortunately these things happen though. I hope you get it resolved x
It's coming from your husband's email account because there are some very clever (and deranged) people out there who can write programmes that allow them to hack others' accounts and send messages purporting to be from them. I had a number of messages from a very good friend whom I know couldn't have written them.
The only concrete thing you can do is cancel the account.
