I used adaware, a2 and spybot (which all have free versions). although I have recently been using the Microsoft spyware 'trial/beta' which has also been quite successful fro me
Spyware could well be responsible. There is so much spyware around now that everyone should have a spyware remover (or 2) on their computers. I use Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com) and spybot search & destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org). I think Microsoft have a Beta version of a new spyware protection and removal program that's available for free (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?********=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en), but not sure how good it is.
