Electric Sockets used for external portable appliances
When socket outlets (installed in a building) are used to supply, extension leads/ portable tools used externally i.e. outside of the building, is it a requirement that such socket outlets be RCD controlled?
In addition to the above, if a socket outlet is installed externally, specifically for for portable appliance use, should such sockets also be RCD type?

However it is good practice to install a double pole isolation switch inside incase any water gets into the external socket.Any work external to the property is notifiable to building control under part P of the building regs.
