missold a holiday
hi all i am in a panic so apologies for bad spelling etc
i am due to go to jamaica on monday for 2 wweeks at a resort the holiday co told me was disbled friendly with wheelchair access. we checked the website and it confirms the claim so we booked (nearly 6 weeks ago)
I emailed the hotel to confirm that we can have a room near the facilities as i cannot manage to walk very far and there response is pasted below...
Thank you for have chosen Breezes Trelawny for your vacation experience. I am going to try and explain to you the location of our rooms to you.
We have rooms on a tower which includes our Mountain View & Ocean View rooms (7 floors). Yes, we do have elevators which lead up from the 2nd to the 7th floor. The 1st and 2nd floor is accessible through stairs (room wise).
The elevators can go from the top floor to the 1st floor which has our daily buffet setting (Breakfast, lunch & dinner).
We could try to get you a room as closer to the elevator as possible.
The other sets of rooms that we have are the Cottages which are at an additional price of US$60PN about 40pounds per night. These rooms are on the level, no stairs, no lifts, closer to the main pool, beach and daily activities. The sizes of these rooms are definitely bigger than the rooms on the tower.
Please let me know how best you think any one of these options will be able to make your holiday an enjoyable one. I hope I have explained a little in-order for you to have an idea how the setting is regarding the rooms-location.
as i cannot manage the stairs at all please can you help me with where i stand legally as i can not go on this holiday and cant affort £40 per night extra
many thanks in advance

I believe Jamaicans to use American English – and therefore when they write:- ‘The elevators can go from the top floor to the 1st floor which has our daily buffet setting (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)’. Translating this to English, English - 1st floor becomes ground floor. Therefore all floors are accessible via the elevator (lift). They have said they will try to get you a room as close to the elevator as possible.
I suggest you contact the hotel to clarify the situation.

thing is, you booked 6 weeks ago - but are only now checking that they can give you rooms you would like - they have no idea of the severity your disabiltiy and unless you check thoroughly at the time of booking you cannot really now complain...
disability friendly can mean allsorts of things...and they are disabilty friendly - they have special cottages available -
their response is confusing though - it says the lifts go from the 2nd to 7th - then says you can get to the 1st floor in it....its seems odd that a hotel would only have partial lifts ... assuming that 1st floor does mean ground floor i am not sure legally what you could do, as they may not have not lied...
however, id kick up a fuss anyway, blame them completely and hopefully they will allow you the rooms you like at the usual rate ...

<<Who in their right mind would build a hotel with a lift service that does not cover the ground floor.>>
Believe me they do sometimes. I stayed in a multistorey hotel in Spain (Cadiz I think) where there was a long and steep flight of stairs from reception on the ground floor up to the lift. I'm sure it's not unique.
I hope that OP's problem is one of nomenclature rather than reality though.

Hi!
I've been to this exact place - the lifts takes you from the lower ground floor (where the restaurant and access to the pool and beach is) all the way up to the top floor.
The staff are lovely and helpful. It's a beautiful place - the beach is just heavenly. The food is great and access is fine - it''s pretty much all flat.
We went last year and didn't want to come home!
