Programs on start up
5 Answers
First of all let me say that I know next to nothing about computers, that said let me tell you that I have been given a working Toshiba Satellite laptop that is running Windows XP
but is painfully slow on booting up & shutting down, I have removed lots of programs that I don't want by going to "my computer - add/remove programs" and deleting them from there but it still remains very slow, I was told that it may be the amount of programs that it is trying to load on boot up/shutdown and that I need to remove the ones I don't need so how do I do that?

Try turning the laptop off, hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn it on, keep the 0 key pressed and see if you get the recovery screen, if you do follow instructions to restore it to factory default.
