Corrupt Data CD
8 Answers
Hello, I want to transfer a Document file to another Laptop. I have downloaded the information onto a Data CD and a DVD [not knowing which I ought to be using].
It has downloaded onto the other Laptop but when I try to open the file it tells me its corrupt? How has this happened and how can I put it right?
Does anyone know the answer.
Thankyou DD

Data Verification.......ermm I have no idea. I really know very little about these things. Maybe I should try burning another disc and look out for the Data wosit.
I really am a dip stick with this technology.
Thanks again DD

If it keeps appearing as corrupt there's either a problem with the original file or with the program which is trying to read it.
Open the document on 'Laptop 1'. Go to File > Save As. Then save the file, with a slightly amended name, (e.g. Mybook2 instead of Mybook). Try transferring that amended file.
Alternatively (or as well) try changing the file format. e.g. If the file has been saved by a recent version of Microsoft Word in the default format, try using 'Save as' to select the 'Word 1997-2003' format.

I wasn't being nosey, I was looking for a little more in depth info, such as what you've written it in!
Taking a bit of a stab in the dark here due to lack of info, are you by chance trying to open a file created in a recent version of microsoft word on a computer that has a early version of word installed? if so you have two choices, either save the file as a word 97/2000 format on the original computer, or install the docx converter on the second computer.

However, as I said I'm taking a educated guess due to lack of relevant info.

Sorry I hadn't thought you were prying Chuckfickens. 10 years ago I wrote an account of my life for my family should they want to know what life was like for this old fogy lol. 10 years on I have updated it and planned to keep it on my older laptop until its complete.
I have a feeling I may well be trying to use different versions of Word as suggested here. The older laptop is XP and the newer one is Vista.
Thankyou so much for helping me.
