Hi ABers/
Im going to bite the bullet in a fortnight and buy the new Sony 3D laptop.
The thing is it has Windows 7 installed and i am used to XP, is it worth seeing if i can get XP installed on it or should i just go with the windows 7 and see how i get on?
Cheers.

Definitely go for Windows 7.
XP has memory limitations and is no longer supported by driver manufactures. You'll be fine with 7 as windows is windows. There are settings to change it to classic view but you'll figure it out.

Thanks Mark any particular reason why its just that i see a lot of posts on here about windows 7 issues.
Cheers
Well, for a start, XP is no longer supported by Microsoft. I'm sure you'll also have seen posts from people who can't do things because they're using outdated software. Depending on your age, you may recall the furore when Windows XP was first released. It's always that way. Windows 7 runs rings round XP in just about every way...

Looks like i will bow to both your experience. Thank you gents.
Unlike Vista, 7 seems to be generally regarded as better than XP. If it's already installed, you might as well 'give it a go'.

However you need to be aware that there are 6 different editions of Windows 7. See the comparison table here for the details:
http://en.wikipedia.o...ki/Windows_7_editions
New laptops often only have the Starter Edition, which can lead to some frustration when, for example, you find that you can't change the Desktop (unless you install a third party program which actually leaves the Desktop unchanged but then puts another picture on top of it).

Similarly, 7 was designed with 'XP Mode' built into it, specifically so that people like you could use your old software and techniques but (annoyingly) Microsoft have only enabled that feature in the most expensive editions of 7.

High Spec .. High price.
Not sure 3D is much use on a small screen tho.
I went from XP to Vista to 7. Vista from XP I found hard, but I really really like 7 as it isso much easier to do some things. Can't you keep the old pc/lappy too like I did (which I have done because some paid for programs only work XP)
I prefer XP but if buying there is little point in staying with the older version. It'll be out of support earlier.

Hi all again.
I had a look at it in the shop AlBags and it was awsome, i have a 40" 3D sony bravia tv at home and the lappy actually surpasses that. Maybe its due to the closeness of the screen i dont know but as i said the 3D effect is out of this world.
