I have a curve 8900, and i am on virgin and the internet deal with virgin is basically 30p a day.

...so does that mean that if i was to start using BB messenger I would be charged 30p?
does it work by connecting me to the net?

I actually dont often use it for the internet so dont want to be sending BB messenger messages to save texts if it going to cost me 30p

I assume so but the people ive asked have differing opinions...

thanks

this isn't my area odf expertise, but . . .

Q: "Do I need a data plan to use BlackBerry Messenger?"
A: "Yes, BlackBerry Messenger sends pin messages through the BlackBerry servers. A BlackBerry internet plan is required to use this functionality".

As I read that, you're connecting to an Internet server whenever you use Blackberry Messenger. (Indeed, I can't think of any other way it could be done).

This is from the Virgin site and refers to pay monthly tariffs

There's great news if you're a BlackBerry fanatic - all our BlackBerry tariffs come with unlimited email and BlackBerry® Messenger plus 1GB Mobile Web each month.

I don't know how much you're paying but Virgin's monthly plans start at around £11 a month. This includes unlimited blackberry messenger - it doesn't count towards your minutes or your data.
If it's worth your while, phone them up and see if you can change.
