Problem with Font Sizes on Web Pages

Some time ago, I started having a problem with text on websites. In the case of larger text, the words overlap and run into each other. If I hold down ‘Ctrl’ and turn the mouse wheel away from me, I can resolve this - the words reduce in size, they stop overlapping and no longer run into one another. However, smaller text then also reduces to a minute size that is barely readable. It never used to be like this – all the text on a web page used to be just the right size – legible and not overlapping. I’ve a feeling that all of this started soon after I discovered that you could increase and reduce the size of a web page using ‘Ctrl’ and the mouse wheel. Could there be a connection and, if so, how can I resolve it?
