Masses of "junk/spam" e-mail on Windows Live Mail - why?

Following a recent "prompt" when logging into my MSN Messenger and MSN Hotmail, I've now changed to Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail.

Whilst the layout is pretty much the same as my "old" programs (albeit they now look better), the amount of "junk/spam" (viagara, meet dirty girls, tell us your bank details, etc) has jumped massively!

Whereas before, I used to get literally one or two items of "junk/spam" per day, I'm now getting in excess of 50!

Even when I utitlise the "Add senders domain to blocked senders list" option, I still get e-mails from those domains!

Can anybody please explain:

a) Why am I now getting so much "junk/spam"?

b) How can I stop this happening?

Thanks

You are a victim of your own doing. You have most likely been a bit lax with regard to where you have posted your email address and it on someones/many spam lists.
Log into your ISP webmail and look at the spam settings. Turn on if necessary, and add some subject line filters and domains, etc there.
That will help.
PS.
Also, if you forwars around joke emails with inline text .. ALL the emails in the group can be harvested.
To stop this .. switch off inline replies when you re-forward emails from a line of people.
Those yahoo and hotmail emails which are sent from mate to mate are the riskiest spam creators.
Albags, your posts were very interesting and helpful to me. I've changed my spam filter to High now. I do forward jokes etc. How do I switch off the inline replies? I'm with aol. Thanks.
I always delete all the previous email addresses on the face of the email before I forward any jokes etc - is that adequate?
Yeah boxtops but sometimes these things have been half way round the world and back!!

Thanks Albags.

I've switched my spam filter to "only allow safe senders".

However, how/where do I do the "in line" thing that you mention, please? I've looked and can't see it anywhere.
C'mon albags. :)
Sorry .. was elsewhere : )

To start with .. in Livemail dropdown arrow (top LHS .. mail settings)
Remove any selection of 'include original message with reply'
Remove excess addresses in to field.

Best of all
Paste required content into a NEW mail and just send that to required recipient(s)
That way, there will be no info anywhere in headers, etc .. as to other parties.

TBH .. If address is on a couple of lists, you are done for .. except you can just rely on the ISP's spam fitering.
