anyone know if there is a program which determines what sound card u have? thought i had this problem sussed but its back again. The thing is we rebooted the comp and the sound driver wasnt installed, i have windows me

To be honest the best way is to look at the card itself.

Open the case and unscrew the card and touch the case with a bare just to lessen the risk of static damage. Firmly hold the card with both hands and DO NOT touch the printed circuit. Remove the card and place on Newspaper NOT on the carpet etc and read what it is.

Download the drivers then switch off PC replace card turn on and install the drivers.

Click on start menu, then run, type dxdiag and then ok

To check what sound card you have click on the sound tab

thanks guys that gr8, rojash i downloaded that everest, dyu kno which bit exactly tells me the sound card? an a suitable driver at all. Thanks v muchly
In the right side, select Multimedia. In the left side you should find something like PC/PnP Audio. Clicking this should tell you the make and model of the sound chip
