Do Curry's have a repair/check service for computers?

I bought my laptop from Curry's 2yrs ago and am very happy with it, but I think it needs a little tweaking here and there for optimum performance. As I am going to England for 10 days in Sept, will Curry's service the laptop for me (I expect to pay) and approx how long will it take. I don't trust the 2 shops we have here to do a good job!

i wouldn't trust curry's either. Have you had a look at their website, tech dept, they should give details of costs, but honestly i have had so many problems with my old computer, and the costs of repairing, even tweaking, can be prohibitive.

What makes you think that?

Well, the mouse works erractically, one minute fine, the next saying "usb doesn't recognise it" it dongs a couple of times and then works fine again, I have tried 3 different mice,and it's the same. It doesn't work at all in the other usb ports . I've tried mouse settings and options but doesn't make any sense to me. and now my speaker control on the task bar won't mute!

Currys will replace it or repair it if is hardware fault and you are covered still in any way for damage but as for the software side of it, That's not their problem, you will have to pay at a computer repair shop for them to sort out that. From what you have said in your other message about its a usb fault, it may not be the laptop it may be the usb device or a faulty connection or the windows program you are running does not support the usb device you have conected. usb connections can wear out on laptops when there constantly being plugged in and unplugged not like desktop pc's that you don't normaly keep connecting and disconnecting them.

I'm not expecting to get anything done for free, just want the whole thing tidied up and made a bit faster, and the blips sorted. Maybe what you are suggesting is right Ravid, what can I do anout the usb port?

I would say PC Worlds Heath Check is probably better as it is done on site and they will tell you what needs to be done. You also know what it will cost as they have a tariff.

PC World (which is the same firm as Currys anyway) have in-store technicians who can do the job for you. (Currys would probably have to send the laptop to somewhere on the other side of the country, despite the fact that many of their stores are located next door to PC World!).

However PC World are,in my opinion, ridiculously pricey. If you're going anywhere near to Essex, get Chuck to do the job for you instead! ;-)

Thank you modeller that is interesting except there isn't one in Eastbourne and means a car journey which means involving my sister and then too complicated.

When my woman's PC mouse started playing up in a similar fashion it turned out to be the main board USB ports. Got around it by installing a new PCI, multi USB card; but of course with a laptop you are a bit more restricted in what you can do. I may be wrong but it sounds to me more like a board replacement job. Hope that's not so.
