My digtal camera has a 1gb card, my son used my card reader to empty off the pics etc(hes 14), hes lost all the pics and video clip, now when the card was put back into the camera it just comes up error? can't take pic, the lock isn't on on the card. whats he done?, will i need to get new card? Had photos on it that where mine, and would have liked to have them back, have done search etc on his laptop but cant find them? anyhelp would be much appreciated.

You may need to format the card to use it again, you can do this in your camera but it will wipe everything off.

Use the PC search facility to find the lost pics on computer.

As for the problem, well if your son copied or moved the picture/video files elsewhere then that is probably a good place to try to recover them. On your hard disk were they ? There are many file recovery type applications out there.

As for the card, that doesn't sound good. Again if it is seen as a drive when connected to the card reader then maybe a disk repair application may work. I assume the card is still readable there since you tried a search. Try to google a file recovery or disk repair app.

In the meanwhile it wouldn't hurt to get a new disk to tide you over until either a) you recover the files and can reformat the card, or b) give up in despair and reformat the card.

Thanks for replys, when the card is in camera, error comes up on the screen, how do i format the card in the camera? simple instructions please!
I have done a search on the computer, nothing, most of the stuff on the camera is my son's but my mums 70th birthday was on it....ggggrrrrr

If it is deleted on the PC you may need a recovery app to even detect it.

As for formatting with the camera, I suspect you need to look at the instruction booklet. No exert but I suspect they all have different menu structures.
