laptop wont connect

hi all we recently moved from bt to sky broadband all fine but recently we tried to conect a new laptop to the internet and it just wont conect
it says its conected but wont open any pages because it says its local conection only the settings on new are same as old ones but can only get local conection .
is it the broadband or has the laptop got setting i need to alter

"local connection" means it is not connected to the internet.

Is this is wired connection or a wireless connection?

To a modem or do you have a router as well?

(I wish people would tell us these things)

If wired it is still probably trying to connect to BT so wont work.

You need to delete the BT connection then let it find the new connection to Sky.

If wireless you need to connect to the new router using the name and password on the Sky router.

Try using the laptop (or another PC) WIRED to the router to make sure the router is working and it can access the internet.

It is usually best to get a new router working using a wire (to make sure it all works) before adding the extra complexity of wireless.

update it seems the router is fine the other laptops at home all connect fine (as you can see )been on to sky they went thru the whole troubleshooting lists all fine it seems to be the laptop that is the issue.could there be something wrong with network adapter????but after having a click around and playing it seems my ip4 and ip6 all seem to be set at local is that relevant?????
like i said before the laptop conected ok when we had bt
but as it has been sitting aroind for a while doing nothing we thought we would start reusing it and the following problem has anyone got any ideas please?????
