sky remote problem

My Panasonic TV and Sky box works perfectly OK but the remote control buttons are requiring more pressure to get them to work.
So I bought a new remote which unfortunately does not switch the TV on/off or control the volume . It does however control everything else, changing channels etc. So it is controlling thr Sky Box but not the TV.

I know what the problem is : It is the fact the remote is not connecting with the TV after the code is entered . I have tried setting it up using the code listed for my set and another code supplied by Sky but in neither case does the remote indicate , by flashing twice that it has stored it.

I have spoken to 'Sky Help' who was useless . He ( some Indian ) just talked me through the same procedure which I had tried and failed 20 odd times.
I shall take the control back to the retailer and maybe exchange it for another one but I don't think that will be any better.
Any suggestions will be welcome.

Clean the old remote, get a refund on the new one.

have you tried setting it up through tv> interactive option 4 customer services>option 5 program remote then follow from there I had to do this a few times but did get it to work.
If the remote was chap .. it might have been a Chinese one.
Many work ok .. many dont on some functions.

Double check codes entered. Don't forget there may be extra code sets .. and you can learn the remote to switch on/off the TV.

futritcat Yes I have and did many times and finally rang up SKY who obviously didn't know what he was talking about or understand my answers.
I think the next entry was the important one.

Thank you all! I had packed it up ready to take it back but I decided to give it another go . It still didn't work , but I then took out into the kitchen and this time it accepted the code which did the trick . It is now working OK .

I think one explanation might be when I packed it away I had removed the batteries which would have allowed it to go back to factory condition . So that when I entered the code from Sky it was starting from a clean slate.
