What is the smallest machine gun that could possibly operate?

Everyone knows that build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door, but does anyone see things from the mouse's perspective. Mice really need machine guns to protect themselves against cats, but would a gun this small really work. The Japanese love to minaturise things, but not sure is this is viable.

Thank for your answers, folks, and no, this was not a trick question. The guns I propose are to protect mice from cats, not mouse traps. If mice are clever enough to make their own machine guns, they should be clever enough to avoid a silly mistake like stepping into a mouse trap. Yes, they would be limited by the amount of cordite in the very small bullets the guns would fire.
