How do I Copy a family dvd to my laptop hard drive
4 Answers
Hello
How do I copy family dvd footage to my hard drive?
The footage is of family christmas's and holidays etc, that was origionally recorded on a sony hi8 video camera, then a few years ago i managed to make copies on dvd-r via a dvd recorder using the av lead supplied with the camera.
I have tried inserting the dvds into my laptop and dragging and dropping the files from the dvd to my hard drive, but then when i try to play tghe copied files they do not play properly.
do i need special software?
Thanks, SD

It's a DVD .. so he should have copied both AUDIO & VIDEO_TS folders across .. into another folder by movie name.
There is nothing kept in AUDIO_TS. Inside VIDEO_TS are ifo, bup, VOB files to make up the DVD.
Open Video_TS.ifo with any Dirsct Show player (like WMP)
If it plays .. great.
If no play .. you need MPEG2 and ac3 audio codecs .. or VLC player .. or Classic Media Player. If you don't want to install another player ..
replay, and I'll post the links for the codecs. This is best way as does not clutter PC with un-necessary software.
