I have just come across this link which may be helpful to other PC Dummies like myself. I just Googled `Define Dongle` as I didn`t know what it was....thinking it may have been rude, and voila, all is explained.

That definition is a little out dated, dongle these days would more often be used to refer to a USB device used to connect to the Internet using the mobile phone network.
