Hi.Asking for my neighbour. He has an HP C4100 Printer. Recently it had a new black cartridge (not from hp but guaranteed to work) It has been working fine and has now stopped. The printer is telling him to check the right hand cartridge. This has been done many times with no results. Any ideas anyone? I have Googled HP and looked at manual. I can't work out how to carry out the 'maintenance programme' (this is mentioned in a few answers on different sites.) Totally stuck now. Is it because the cartridge isn't from HP? Or something else maybe? Thanks
Barb - Have you tried printing "Self test report" (page 23 in manual)? If he never experienced problems before fitting none HP cartridge, I would consult with person / company that guaranteed it to work.
Hi Tony, many thanks. When I press setup button nothing happens,it just says check right hand cartridge. I tried taking it out and it still won't bring up the setup menu.
Had a similar problem with my Kodak printer.Cleaned the printer head etc.
the answer was not using Kodak cartridges, had been getting them on line.
Soon as I switched back, everything was fine.
Barb - I would try a new HP cartridge then and go from there. Lot's of rubbish non OEM cartridges out there as well as acceptable - you just don't know? It is a fact though that printer manufacturers do make a huge profit on replacement cartridges, some say more than they do on th printers themselves.
They need a new cartridge. Mine did the same and I just buy mine from Morrisons. It wont bring up the set up menu unless you have both cartridges in( a bit like needing 2 batteries to make things work)
Some work .. some are 'supposed' to work .. but don't.
Try old cartridge in it again .. if it works, ask for another cartridge.
Print cartridges are often recycled. After being in various machines, they will pack up eventually.
Thanks everyone.I've advised him to get a genuine cartridge (which to be fair I told him before he bought this other one) I've had similar problems with Epson too! Thanks for all your advice.
