Kitchen Lights

We have halogen lights under the cabinets in our kitchen and they are a pain in the butt, the bulbs are always blowing and they are very fiddley to replace. The only other option I can find are strip lights (florenscent tubes), we had these before in our old kitchen but they are rather ugly. Anyone got a better idea?

If you are talking about your wall-mounted cupboards, flourescent tubes are not visible when they're hidden behind a pelmet fitted to the front underside of the units. This is normal way, and an advantage is that the tubes run cooler than halogen, and won't heat up what's in the cupboards nealy as much.

LEDs are probably the future of domestic lighting, but I'm unsure the number of lumens per bulb, or price is ready yet. That said, under cabinets you could possibly use stick on battery powered led light/torches and find them sufficient. Not sure I'd be keen though.

I recently took out florescent strip for halogen in my kitchen ceiling, so I think I'd be advising to stick with what you have for now.

If they keep blowing, are you sure your wiring is ok ? Do they have enough ventilation above to avoid heat build up ? And if they are hidden under the wall cabinet, do florescents look so bad anyway ?

We've got the tubes under the cupboards and they blow just as often as the halogen lights... I'm starting to think candles would be more convenient!!!

Thanks all, we've still got the tube lights that we took out of the old kitchen, so might give them another try.
