thanks
but can you do it from starting in dos because the pc is so slow and has loads of progs that run from start up that i want to copy them so i can wipe it
As far as I am aware an XP machine cannot start in DOS as it does not have an actual DOS feature. The Command Prompt is a DOS emulator which runs under XP.

do you have any ideas this pc is infected and wont load up properly its my friends and all they want is the fotos off of it
Easiest way these days would probably be with a bootable linux CD or USB stick..

look at the try it options...

You say that the computer runs slow due to the many programs running at start-up and all you want is to copy the photo files from it??
Then go to START/ RUN. Type MSCONFIG. Click OK. Click the START tab and remove all the ticks which relate to the unwanted programs which are slowing the computer.
Restart the Computer and it should run faster which will allow you to copy all the fotos to a memory stick.
Does this help???
