Why are they called jewel case? It's not as though they are precious... or even semi precious. It's really bugging me!

Your question is???............
I think youll find the question was "Why are they called jewel cases"...?
I call mine a 'Jewellery Box'. Mainly because I keep all my jewellery in it of course!
diff case, smudgey. for some reason they call the plastic thing that cds come in a 'jewel case'. Imagine my chagrin when I first got hold of one just to find a cd inside!

I know, I know - I was feeling in a mischievious mood Marge! I think you know what that means don't you?

I have actually got a couple of 'jewel cases' & I agree with pesnikinja, it is rather a silly name for them!

Oh now I understand - yes I call them Jewellery Boxes.
A bit mischievous smudge, but more just bored. Bored bored bored. How to cure boredom?
Mmmm - How to cure boredom? Answerbank of course!

"Jewel" refers to the piece that clips into the center hole of the cd to keep it in place. It has a jewel-like design.
