I-Pod connection In a Car

Just took delivery of a new car (Vauxhall Meriva - but I think thats immaterial) and the brochure quotes I-Pod connection socket.

At the bottom of the centre console are two connectors which I believe are a 3.5mm jack and a USB. I have tried connecting via the USB lead supplied with the I-Pod but the cars audio system says it cannot find a connection.

Am I right in using the USB or does it need a 3.5mmm from the earphone to the car console??

If it's anything like mine, it will need a jack-to-jack. The USB socket will almost certainly be for playing MP3s on a memory stick.

I guess i-Pod connection sounds sexier than Aux. Line In

I would think the USB socket is to charge the ipod and the 3.5mm socket for the audio.

seems it is the USB. but I must not be too impatient as a 160gig i-Pod takes about 5 mins to sort itself out and start/list tracks!!!!!
