last time i couldnt turn off my laptop, i was told to force close down by holding down the off buton for a few seconds, and it worked! Should i do this again and hope it doesnt cause any big problems?. was ok last time
That's the only way I know to do it when it or the desk top won't switch off. Good to do a scan disk et al when you reboot though (or it does it for you on Win 98 SE) if it's not been closed down properly.
have to do it a lot with my pc never seemed to get the problem with my old one or my laptop but other friends with new machines running windows 7 seem to have the same difficulty... if I click hibernate it goes off sometimes, sleep it does nothing and off is off, hibernate or sleep depending on the weather or other random variable
many thanks for replies folks. I've also noticed since I couldnt turn off , that a small oblong box on the bottom right hand side of the screen says ----
Belikin.3718, underneath it saysinternet access. never had that on screen befoer , bit of a mystery there

It shouldn't be a problem. You can also take out the power cable, and then the battery for 30 seconds, then put the battery back in, and then the cable, then switch it on. There really should be no problem.
