External Hard Drives.

My laptop looks like it is on its last legs! This isnt really suprising as I have had it for 7 years, so can't really complain! However, I really need to purchase an external hard drive to back up a a lot of info that I have on my computer, that I don't already have on disc, memory sticks etc. Can anybody please answer the following questions:
1) How user friendly are these eternal hard drves?
2) What can I save to the external hard drives? For example can I save all my favourites?

I bought a Seagate 320GB Portable Hard Drive and I found it very easy to use. Just connects via usb and doesn't even need a separate power supply. I found it had ample space to not only back up the entire contents (including favorites) of my laptop, but also my desktop too. It certainly beats having to burn data CDs all the time.

You already use memory sticks - you will find that an external hard drive works in exactly the same way i.e. plug it in and it will appear as an extra drive letter in My Computer. Then simply read and write folders and files to it just as you do with the usual hard drive / memory sticks/...

Oops! forgot to say yes, you can save stuff directly to your portable hard drive, but if you're anything like me, you'd save it to your computer first and then decide if you want to send it to your portable/expansion drive (after which you can delete it from your computer, of course!)

A good question, may I intervene and ask, is there a ultra fast way to copy and transfer all the items onto the portable hard drive?

My laptop is also getting old and the hard disc capacity is not enough. Have been using a 320 gig external drive and it is quick and easy to use. Go for it Zubar.

Cant help aog. I just copy stuff from the desktop as I go.

I own a Seagate Expansion desktop drive serial number SRD00F2 Its stop working. Its powered. I check the power supply , it looks a sealed unit. im sure its not. and you can get in from the front. But I would not know what to look for if I got that far. Normally is there any repair hope for these devices or is it an expensive right off ?
