Slow hard drive

It took about 11 hours for McAffee to scan my hard drive on Sunday.

Having checked the device manager it appears that my primary ATA drive (C:) is using PIO while my DVD rewriter is set for ultra-dma 4.

Is this likely to be a failure in the ATA controller or in the disk?

If I replace the disk, how do I clone my current hard drive onto it? I am using XP Pro.

You should be able to change your drive from PIO to UDMA in the BIOS.

If it is set to PIO it will really slow your PC down.

Thanks, VHG. All my drives were originally set to UDMA. It appears that the driver has downgraded the interface speed - perhaps because of errors.

However, I will try to reset it this evening when I get home from work.

I would still like to know how to clone the drive just in case I need to replace it. I'm sure that I've done this before.
