Hi, i recently bought a mouse mat for my mouse (obviously) because my desk is a bad surface, jumps all over the place, i had to rest on a piece of paper for ages. The site said that the mat would be fine for optical mice, but (typically) it jumps on this as well, seems the surface is too smooth or shiney or something. Anyway just wondering if there's anything i can do to either the mouse or the surface (that wont ruin the image) to make it better? Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the accleration curves in the control panel.  This sometimes helps, especially with optical mice (mouses?).  Here's another person that had similar problems and his solution..

Good luck!

i once had an optical mouse but couldnt get on with it !

used to keep jumping to top of screen.really annoying when surfing as id go to click on something,it would jump to the top and i would click on the spam banner at the top !

Without trying to sound stupid - do you pick your mouse up at all when you move it? This may cause it to jump - I know that some people have to adjust their mouse using habits to compensate for this.

You could try turning the mousemat over, and using the back. Does the mousemat have a picture on, or a repeating pattern?
Optical mice are a real pain. Worst thing is to use them on a shiny surface (even a laminated mousemat) as the light bounces all over the place. A permanent cure is a fabric mousemat. I use Photoshop a lot and it's the only way to stop the cursor jumping all over the screen, out of control.

i had this problem and apart from using white paper i bought a light coloured mouse mat
