Computer I bought recently always restarts once when I click on "Shut Down". However I wait and let it settle and "Shut Down" again and this time it does shut down. Is there any sort of setting in the system that might be causing this?

You should logoff first before you shutdown as this will shutdown any programs running and let it shut down cleanly.
It's windows 7 isn't it??

Instead of clicking the main shutdown dutton click the little arrow to the left of it and make sure you select shutdown from the menu that pops up and see if that makes any difference. (also if you hover the mouse over the big shutdown button for a second it will pop up a little message saying what that button is actually set to do, it might be shutdown or standby)
Shutdown dutton??

Not sure what a dutton is (other than a type of kit car I built years ago)... try the shutdown button instead.
This happens to my PC and doing as Chuck says does the trick.

Thanks Chuck - If I click on Shutdown button the arrow is on the right hand side and not left. Then my list of options there does not have "Shutdown". It has Switch users, log of, lock, restart and sleep.
