Digital Watches......Stuck in time???

The other day I thought I would treat myself to a new digital watch, my old one being over 20 years old, I was amazed to see that Digital watch technology has not advanced at all. When you compare them to say Mobile phones it dosnt make sense at all, why are they stuck in time?

I just use my mobile for time - don't wear a watch any more.

Well, you can get solar-powered ones and radio-controlled ones which you couldn't get a few years ago.

One advance I have seen since the introduction of quartz timing is the improvement in accuracy over the years. Early digital watches would be hard pressed not to loose or gain 10 seconds a month. If a modern quartz time-piece is not accurate to within 1 second a month, either the battery is flat or it is broke.

I have one which incorporates a barometer, altimeter and compass amongst other things. Don't think you could get one like that 20 years ago.

....whereas you can have a mobile with gps which is moe useful.
Why do you need to know how high up you are?
I'd find it more useful if it reminded of important dates, which my phone does.
