is there any way of stopping my phone going to voice mail even though i dont have voicemail.
after 2 rings it automatically goes to voicemail so i have to run to get to the phone b4 it does.
or even letting it ring a few more times b4 it cuts in cos its really annoying

Yes but you don't have to have the voicemail if you don't want it, just ring them and they'll switch it off, we opted out on our line years ago.
