i have just got a focus 2.0 ghia v reg 1999 it revs high when slowing down and chugs alot at low speeds and evey now and i can smell a burning smell it smells like oil

Should you have bought it?
Possibly piston rings on the way out.
Sometimes having the engine management system reset sorts out a lot of problems like those you describe.
