Tracking Cookies...are They a Threat? and Am I Being Cynical?

I have free Norton security...( I didn't choose it-it came with the last Adobe flash update I did).....it has just done a scan,and has found 80 'threats...all are tracking cookies. Things like 'content yieldmanager.com', 'yieldmanager.net', .bs serving-sys.com', '.bubblestat.com', 'ads.monster.com'.

alongside this-in a yellow box -is Fix Now....which then opens a new window......to upgrade,and purchase,new security. Am I being a cynic in thinking this is all a ruse to get people to purchase what they don't really need?

Personally I think it's being overly paranoid, it's not a threat, or even a big invasion of privacy IMO.

OH and the norton scan is probably a bigger problem in my eyes.....

If I want to download something I want to download it, not have to agree to getting my computer scanned by another company.

(you could have opted out of the scan if you'd looked at the options during the update)

Go into your add/remove programs and remove the free scanner. I got McAfee forced on me when installing some Adobe program and the first thing I did was remove it. I never had an option to not install it either, it just added it without me clicking any permission for that specifically.

I am certain there was no option...it's not something I wanted.

daffy....Same thing happened to me when I had an Adobe update. I got rid of the McAffee, immediately, because I am completely satisfied with MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) which is free without any strings attached; such as trial period with an opportunity to purchase.

I also use MSE now Ron, my son's PC (which is my old one) still has a fully paid up version of McAfee which will be changed to MSE when the subscription expires.
