further to my previous question regarding how my husband was feeling http://www.theanswerb.../Question1073743.html i would just like to say thanks so much for all your replies. He decided himself thaT enough was enough and made a GP appointment. The GP was very sympathetic and lovely (as usual) - we have different gp's but same practice.
Mr 'nobs has now started on citalopram tablets and while of course they are not working as such yet, he feels better already for having taken a bit of control of a situation that's felt very out of control for him.
The apcket says not to take them with alcohol - is that really right? and what would happen if he did? He's no alkey, but does like the occasional beer or single malt

I didn't reply on the last one as I couldn't offer any practical advice at the time. I still can't now, but I just wanted to say...errrmmm, well not sure really, just wanted to say I'm thinking of you. Not that's any help to either you or your husband is it? LOL

Here's hoping that things do get better for you both, and hope 2012 is far less suckier than 2011 was for you both!

its better not to have alcohol with meds like this, advice from my GP/hospital

That's good to hear. I was on them for a long while and had the occasional drink without a problem.

One word of caution, not sure how high a dose he is on (and not asking) but they can cause wierd side effects if they are suddenly stopped, especially on higher doses, so a good drug to make sure any repeat prescriptions are in in plenty of time.

I found them great, the only one I've ever found helpful.

I found alcohol was a problem during the first couple of weeks.. while I was getting used to the citalopram... but ok now...in moderation...

Glad you are getting a bit more help...sometimes its better to lean on the help availablke when things are so dark...better than falling completely...good luck for next year...you are due some good things

I've been on Citalopram 20mg for quite some time and I too have no problem with the odd drink now and then. However, I really should point out that everyone reacts differently to medication. It might not be the same for him and his dosage might be different to mine too. Citalopram isn't at full efficacy until after the first four weeks, so he won't properly know what effect the odd drink will have until that time.

I've just read your original post bednobs and I'm so sorry to hear of the terrible ordeal you've been through. I'm thinking of you both, hoping that the meds help your husband and that somehow, you both manage to find some acceptable level of peace. xx
