My son has asbergers and although very intelligent and keen to learn he hates reading. He says he finds it boring and needs audio or visual stimulation to keep interested. So i thought id buy him a kindle for xmas as i believe they can read out loud to you, but which model does this and how much? cheers Kx

AsPergers, not asbergers.

If he hates reading a kindle would probably be a waste of money.
I don't know much about Kindles but apparently they can do audiobooks. There's some information here

sorry about the spelling im tired, he hates reading because he loses concentration but loves to listen or watch and learn
With respect, daffy654 - that is an unhelpful & frankly heartless answer IMO.

I freely confess to not knowing nearly enough about either Asperger's or Kindles to consider advising musicmummy, but would urge her to wait - sensible, decent responses WILL come from other AB'ers, I'm certain.
Honestly, i'm not sure a kindle would be right for him. It is quite dull for a child, even with the audio book function.
My 14 year old son (also Aspergers) loves reading and has asked for a kindle but i've had to say no, he can (and does) read several books a day and there is no way I can afford to download that many for him :) He would tire of the free ones far too quickly. lol
Lie-in king.
I know a heck of a lot about aspegers after dealing wiyth it for the last 14 years with my own son. I was not being heartless but you can think whatever the heck you like.
I agree with Daffy.
I think i'll leave this thread now before I lose my temper and get myself banned. :)
Hi musicmummy I am sure the National Autistic society or similar will have help and guidance with regards to whether the kindle may help promote reading interest for your son. My daughter like many others has to live with this and she has retired for the night.

daffy , I am sure all Maj meant was, the spelling correction did not appear helpful , but am sure you too are very tired tonight. If I find out more MM I will report back.
not all children with asbergers syndrome display the same symptoms, maybe the op thinks her son would benefit from the use of a kindle.
Reality check - you can buy a kindle, give it a try then return it if it's not the right thing. Amazon are brilliant, you won't have any problem.

the voice function isn't bad - very personal

you can get online books for free - thousands of them...
daffy - I did not say that you were heartless, but that your answer read as such.

Had you considered how it would look before posting & used your second answer instead, I would not have replied & everyone would be happy.

Please accept my apologies if I have caused inadvertent offence to anybody.

Good night, all - be well.
^^^ a gentleman,
Very true.
^^^^ or a lady ? sorry sir a, :)
of the models available in the Uk currently, your best bet would be the kindle keyboard as the smaller kindle does not do sound at all
