It depends why you think she's wrong - every computer should have some sort of internet security programme, so what's she got instead? if she didn't tell the company before the 30 days was up that she didn't want it, then yes, she'll have to pay.
Plenty of free security programs available to download:

Microsoft Security Essentials,
http://windows.micros...s/security-essentials

AVG,
http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage,

Avast,
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

are all highly regarded.

Boxtops, I've followed the advice I've seen on here, all you need is AVG and Avset and it's free! and it works for me.

Twix, she's very cautious, she thinks if she pays she's safer. I must admit I was like that when I got my first computer.
I'm like her and think I'm safer if I pay. You don't get much for nought in this world.
Does her ISP not provide Security?
yes you do, take the time to have a look at all the computer freeware that is available (there's a lot of it)
>>all you need is AVG and Avset and it's free!

I assume you mean Avast not Avset.

Both AVG and Avast are anti virus products so it is VERY BAD to run them both at the same time on your PC.

This can cause conflcts and slow your computer down.

Uninstall one or the other.

Totally not true.

There is LOADS of free software out there, much of it very very good.

An operating system called Linux is free, and half the web sites in the world run on Linux.

Libre Office is a free full featured office suite.

Paint.NET, an excellent photo editing program, is totally free.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, because Microsoft want to reduce the number of viruses on Windows they provide this free.

Also many companies like AVG and Avast (who SELL security software) also give part of it away for free as a "taster".

I could go on and on, there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of really good free pieces of software available.

In fact many home users who run Linux (free) and Libre Office (free) dont pay anything at all for any of the software on their PCs.
and don't forget about internet browsers - they are all freeware
