For the past few weeks my laptop has been making a horrible sound effect when the internet connection shuts down. I am not aware of having done anything to make this happen. I have tried searching the sound effects through control panel/sounds but can't find anything that fits. My husband says it sound like water "gurgling" but I think is sound like a satanic laugh!!! Any ideas as to where this came from and how to get rid of it would be much appreciate.

I'm kind of puzzled as to what you mean by "when the internet connection shuts down".
Unless you are on dial up, then one wouldn't expect the internet connect connection to shut down at all.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am using Windows 7. I have Norton and and wi-fi not dial up. This sound just appeared "out of nowhere" and I assumed it was linked to one of the windows updates that randomly occur. I think it is possibly linked to the internet connection because it sometimes also happens when I open emails through windows mail but not immediatey just a few seconds later when the emails are ready to read. - Other than that I am completely at a loss. I will however try removing my USB bluetooth device and see if that helps.

In case Methyl & Rojash are interested, I have eventually discovered the source of the horrible sound effect: it's the start up and shut down sound of Skype and I am at last rid of it!!!
