With printer cartridges around £30 I am tempted to but cheaper copies. Is this a false economy?

Ebay sellers, sell 3 sets (12 cartridges) + 3 additional black cartridges (all claimed to be double capacity) for around £8 (with free P&P).
So £8 buys around £200 worth of the genuine stuff – it’s a no brainer as far as I’m concerned.

We have a Cannon Pixima ip6600D and they have 6 cartridges at an average cost (genuine Cannon) of £14.99 each. They last the same amount of time as the cheap ones we buy from Jet Tec but these only cost about £4 each! No loss of print quality and they last the same amount of time. Wish we'd realised the cost of replacing these cannon cartridges when we bought the bloomin thing. Lexmark just as bad ~ nearly as cheap to buy a new printer from Tesco than replace the cartridges (new printer £44.95 ~ replacement genuine Lexmark cartridges £39.00)

I have had two Epson printers ruined by cheap cartridges.
Proper Epson ink contains anti clogging agents, which cheap inks dont have.
I bought a £75 Epson printer and after the proper inks ran out I put in cheap copies, and the Cyan head clogged up.
The rest still work, so it is usable, but the Cyan still does not work and Epson will do nothing as I used cheap ink.
So it is somewhat risky to use cheap inks.
