HDTV and SkyBox
2 Answers
Hi all
I have a bog-standard Sky Digibox at the moment- neither Sky+ nor SkyHD.
My present TV is a CRT type that's a few years old now. All the connections to my DVD recorder etc are via SCART cabling.
I'm considering upgrading to a new fullHD, flatscreen 3D TV and I'm thinking of buying this set:
Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
As I understand it, the set is designed to receive signals via HDMI cable input to work on HD/3D and there is more than one HDMI socket on the TV to take these connections. There's also one SCART socket provided on the TV.
If I connect my digibox to the TV via a SCART cable, I realise that I'm not going to be able to receive SKYHD as I've not got a SKYHD box, but will I be worse off as far as the picture quality is concerned? Also, if I plugged both my digibox and DVD recorder into the TV via a multi SCART adapter box, could I watch recordings off the DVD recorder as well as record them?
Thank you.

Use that through the 'fully wired' scart lead to TV. Only fairly high-end CRT TV's had RGB on the scart input, so it should be an improvement for you.
Best (and cheapest) upgrade for you would be to buy a 2nd hand Sky+ HD box on eBay for about £60 and use the free HD channels and HDMI. (Record if you have a Sky a/c)
You won't record from any output from TV, but you might using VCR scart on Sky box.
Don't buy a newer Mini-HD box in above case .. (there are no scarts on it)
