Hi,

I've been told it will not be possible to watch videos through a digital tv after the analogue signal has been turned off - is that true?

Thanks Buzzyb

Question: "What about playing pre-recorded video cassettes after we go digital? I've been told that after the switchover, I will be unable to play the hundreds of pre-recorded video cassettes I already have. Is this true?"

The good news is that you'll still be able to play back your existing video cassette tapes after the switchover. You will need to connect the output of your video recorder to your TV set.

No.

If you have a video recorder connected to your TV there is no reason that switching off a TV signal at the transmitter is going to effect it other than you won't be able to record from TV with it any more (unless you get a freeview set top box to connect to it)

You'll be able to play back anything you already have recorded with no change at all.
You dont say if you want to "record and watch" videos, or just watch existing videos.

As has been said, there is nothing to stop you watching any pre-existing video after the switch over.

However if you want to record new videos you may have a problem.

The thing is inside each video recorder is a TV tuner, and this will almost certainly be analogue. When you recorded a video BEFORE the digital switch over you were using the tuner inside the video recorder.

But after the digital switch over the TV tuner inside your video will not pick up any TV signal so you cant record using that tuner.

There are ways of connecting a video up so it can record from an external source, but you cant record a video using the TV tuner inside the video recorder.
