iPhone not syncing to iTunes

When I connect my iPhone to my PC, iTunes no longer starts automatically to sync etc. If I start iTunes and plug my iPhone into the USB, an error message comes up saying "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started" . Tried looking through the help pages with no success. Any ideas what I've done?!

OK, sorted it! Good old google...the Apple site is useless!!
