A message in a pop up window informs me that Microsoft Security Essentials was not the genuine and it was disabled and to run a check. I pressed a key which took me tp PC Performer, and after it did a scan of my PC these results were given. System related errors 42. Com & active X errors 305. User related errors 5. Start up & uninstall errors 229. These errors would cost me, I think it was about £24.95 to fix. What should I do?

Your computer has been infected by malware (which is generating that totally false message and which is trying to get you to part with money for something which you don't need and won't do anything).

Download and install the free version of Malwarebyes Anti-Malware:

Running it should get rid of the problem. (If it doesn't, and the pop-up window keeps reappearing, boot into Safe Mode - by pressing F8 at start up - and run it again).

Just one snag Chris, as I have paid £19.05 before Christmas for the full Malwarebytes version, and I don`t want to lose that. It is MSE whom are giving me a problem by making me do a scan with PC Performance. My PC is very slow as it keeps freezing. Hoping you (or someone) can help solve this. TIA.

As per original info, boot into safe mode and run malwarebytes (no need to download and install free version if you have the paid one). Make sure you update it first before booting into sm.

No it is not.

It is PC Performance "pretending" to be MSE to try to get you to run THEIR product (which highlights non-existant errors) and then try to make you part with your money.

So it is PC Performance that is giving you the problem not MSE.

Restart your computer, Carlton 23, but (while it's going through the initial processes) press F8. That will enable you to get into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode your screen will look very odd (because the video driver won't have loaded) but you'll still be able to run a scan with Malwarebytes Pro, which should fix your problem.

To get out of Safe Mode simply restart your computer.

Good day Gents, I have uninstalled Malwarebytes and started to download the pro version, but I have to pay £19.95 again and I don`t relish doing that again. What next would you advise me to do?

From this forum http://forums.malware...stalling&fromsearch=1 it seems that when you purchased the program that you should have received an email containing the ID and key, and so you should re-enter that info into the Malwarebytes via the Register button.

|I had this a while ago under the name "MS removal tool". It locked up my laptop asking for payment to release it. I had Malwarebytes but hadn't updated it and it didn't get rid of it. I got into safemode but couldn't get online. I eventually had to pay someone to sort it for me. I now have a full version of Malwarebytes which is regularly updated.

Probably just me being thick again, but I do not understand why you uninstalled the paid version of Malwarebytes you already had and are now trying to download it again. Surely the suggestion was you boot the PC into 'safe mode' and then run the Malwarebytes you already had ? Or did you suspect it was corrupted or something ? In any case the details you were given when you purchased should still be valid, as bibble says.

Old Geezer: yes, I received a window stating that the version I had was corrupt, although I followed a link by an A/B whom is trusted to give good info, so somehow it got currupted by me , I expect.

I hope I have sorted it out now, but time will tell.....I`ve spent ages to-day waiting and watching for my PC to do as it is told. But Malwarebytes appears to be ok now, thankyou all for your suggestions.
