Cross site scripting

Every time I click on someone's thread I get a message that reads

Internet Explorer Has modified this page to help prevent cross-site scripting.

I have no other programmes running and I've even switched off my computer but it still pops up.

Do you know why it does this please?

Seems a bit drastic to turn off a security measure just to prevent the message associated with it though?

Well done Chris you never cease to amaze me.
Don't know what I've done security wise but it's got rid of the pop up which was getting on my nerves.

Thanks for the directions, Chris, but to be honest I don't want to switch off a potentially useful device - I've just got used to it now, I ignore it.

Does everyone get it then? It has been annoying me but I didn't want to mess with any security settings which could let other nasty things in.

I get it too, so I did the "thing" and removed it and my whole computer did all sorts weirdness so I undid what I'd done and now it's back and no more weirdness - let sleeping cats lie!
If anyone can understand what I've just written could they please explain it to me?

It's a common problem, Jenna1978, resulting from Microsoft using security settings which are too aggressive. It's things like that which make millions of people ditch Internet Explorer and use a better browser, such as Firefox or Chrome. (Hardly any of the 'regulars' in AB's Technology section use Internet Explorer. Indeed from the posts I've read, I'd guess that the majority of all ABers don't use Internet Explorer).

I use IE. Tried Firefox once but didn't like it and don't understand what is the benefit of things like Chrome. Saying that my old laptop wouldn't have coped with anything like so that so should maybe try again if it's worth it. What's the difference?

I have just got rid of mine also, so hoping everything will still be ok, as I`ve had it up to my bald head to-day.

Didn't realise others were getting it so I'll just leave it now.

To turn off this message, Do the following, Go to Internet Options in Tools in Internet Explorer , Select the Security Tab , Click the Internet Tab, Select Custom Level, Scroll to the bottom of the list and click Disable under Enable XSS Filter. This will stop the message .

Interesting, but does that disable just the warning (that means nothing to the usual user), or does it disable the whole check ?
